Music Review - Nu Moosik On Samurai
>Ubiquity Presents Clutchy Hopkins
In 1992, the Ubiquity crew set off on a search for the best records we could find. On one of our travels we stopped in the Mojave desert at the local swap meet in the town of Victorville, CA. Instantly luck led us to a few record crates jam-packed with classic soul, funk and jazz gems. But this happened to be the least of our discoveries. Next to the crates was a box of reel to reel tapes. Blindly buying the tapes out of curiousty, we brought them back to office only identifying the sounds from the tapes with the name that was etched on the casing: C. Hopkins. We spent a few months trying to track down this mystery man with no luck...up until internet postings, myspace videos and a call out of nowhere took us to closer to the source. Kelli Hopkins, the daughter of one Clutchy Hopkins, called to explain that the tapes contained unreleased material from her father.
We were finally able to reach out to our reclusive mystery man. He is a peaceful mysterious man that has given us some of the best records in our collection. We would like to thank Clutchy for bringing us the music that he has made, and for letting us share it with the people. Ubiquity will release Walking Backwards, an LP worth of new material from Mr. Hopkins. The CD includes bonus DVD with Clutchy Hopkins testimonials and stories from those who've had the oppotunity to cross paths. Walking Backwards is out on Ubiquity online and in all good record stores now.
>LuckyMe
LuckyMe is a collective of producers and djs based in Scotland who have cornered the global beat scene on a sea of good press. By involving every new and varied sub genre of electronic dance music, rap and soul into their music they have made a movement that reaches out beyond Europe, touching all like-open-minds between L.A and Tokyo.
The roster is vast and complicated involving artists and groups: Hudson Mohawke, The Heralds of Change, Mike Slott, Summel, Rustie, Surface Emp, FineArt, Jay Prada, Dema, Nadsroic and The Blessings. All artists with a dedication to forward-thinking music.
Although the team work with other labels, ( Hudson Mohawke is now signed with Warp Records, and Rustie is tied to Londons' Ramp Records and Kode9's' imprint ) LuckyMe turned label this month to put out a white label club record and will be serving up slabs of the crews most leftfield and obscure works on a more regular basis.
They also run parties. Their current night, The Ballers 5ocial Club has recently moved to the legendary Glasgow School of Art to present a low-slung night of guests including BTS Radios' Andrew Meza, Skwee champs Rigas D and Luminous, Clark, Vex'D, Dimlite, Debruit, Mweslee, Milanese, The Carps, Fulgeance, Kelpe and The Cool Kids.
They hope that through their new monthly show right here on Samurai.fm and their home at www.thisisluckyme.com, you might grow to know and love them. One hour of new genre screwing music mixed by residents Hudson Mohawke and FineArt and presented by Summel, dedicated to the art of the hum and the laser.

>WC Recordings
From the beginning on Blueprint records, through the last 10 years Oliver Ho has explored techno and house in its many different styles, ranging from the deep tribal sounds of the "Universal" album on his label Meta, to the dark abstract noises of his Veil album, to the funkier house sounds of his Birdland project. All these ideas and sounds have been distilled down into the current project, Raudive. The sound of Raudive takes the percussion of his earlier tribal releases and mutates it into a slower deep minimal sound, fusing the funk of house and the electronics of techno.
The debut record on Klang Elektronik, "Audio ep" closely followed by Podium Records "Here" gained attention from dj's such as Riacrdo Villalobos, Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin. These initial releases have been followed by the raudive sound evolving with more appearances on Klang, Music Man and Pokerflat. This sound is also reflected in oliver's dj sets, visit www.oliverho.com to hear and see the latest performances from clubs around the world.
WC Records is a Japanese label established by DJ/producer Salmon that focuses on an range of house, techno and electronica releases. A series of boxed sets built their reputation in the scene as well as the young talent they showcased. They recently started 'Shukan Shonen WC' (WC Boys Weekly - in the style of Japanese weekly manga magazine) in December 2007 that releases a new digi EP every Monday and is distributed by Japanese and international music sites. A new party launching at Unit in Daikanyama will showcase their sound and the artists involved, the first on the 7th March featuring the WC crew alongside a special live performance from Raudive, (Oliver Ho).

On the DJ scale he is also massively in demand with Ibiza gigs including Circo Loco and Superfreq at DC10 and Alma at Privilege, plus the usual gigs including Fabric and The End in the UK, Panorama Bar in Berlin and the best clubs throughout Europe.
>Mass Mvmnt Radio Presents Scientific American
mass.mvmnt presents the next step in the evolution of the mixtape...scientific american (real name andrew rohrmann) is a producer and composer from the northwest section of the united states (we call it cascadia), who has delved into many areas of music production over the years... dj residencies, composing for television, releasing a stable of full lengths, singles and remixes, and most recently composing his first feature film soundtrack. mass.dstrction is the audio manifestation of scientific's recent experiments in melding the concepts of live performance of his own music vs. dj'ing the music of others. the concept is simple: to create a musical experience with no content off limits, and then to see how that content evolves over time.
the project started in the spring of 2006 with mass.dstrction.1, and has continued to evolve over the months with each subsequent mix being essentially a 'remix' of the previous version. tracks get blended, mashed, fractured, stuttered, and eq'ed, until the final result bears almost no relationship to its original form. while at its core is the desire to simply deliver an entertaining listen, mass.dstrction goes much deeper...digging into the concepts of copyright, authorship, ownership, the artistic relevence of dj skills and mixing...all of which can be distilled to one simple question: "who owns sound?".
>Hiem Radio Trulz + Robin
Trulz and Robin have been part of the Norweigan house & techno scene since the 90s, residents at clubs such as Skansen, Killyrego & Blitz in Oslo while also arranging their own legendary shindigs. Their reputation fast spread worldwide scoring them gigs all over Europe and earning themselves a 9th place award in a Norweigan magazines all time favourite DJ poll. A debut album and a follow up on their label, Be Records, scored with music fans at home and abroad with Black Strobe licensing one of the tracks for inclusion in their Kill the DJ album on Tigersushi. They now run their new label Snick Snack music with friends Ost & Kjex while playing regularly at The Villa in Oslo.
>Ten 12 Records Presents Dr. Watch
Led Zeppelin was creating hypnotic beats far before the time of Marley Marl, Pete Rock, Dr. Dre and The Neptunes. Rick Rubin tapped into this early with the Beastie Boys, but never delved deep enough into the Zeppelin catalog to truly capture their soul.
Turnstylz mastermind, Dr. Watch, has decided that there is no time like the present to showcase what John Bonham, John-Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant really had cooking in that devil's kitchen.
Mix the boombastic beats and rhythms of Zeppelin with one of Jay-Z's best collection of rhymes and what you get is Dr. Watch's, "Houses Of The H.OV.A."!!
>Popstatic Presents Kaliedoscope
Kaleidoscope' is the brainchild of Chicago-bred dj/producer/graphic artist Popstatic. It is an uncompromising attempt to fuse every influence and aesthetic under his expansive musical palette into a singularly eccentric and colorful mix series unlike any other. Using the freedoms that typified the music of the late-60's as a framework for his aesthetic, he weaves disparate sounds from different genres, countries and eras into a surreal, dreamlike musical experience.
Within 'Kaleidoscope' it will not be unusual to hear dance music of a dozen different varieties rubbing shoulders with obscure international pop gems, textural ambient sounds and a whole lot more. Each installment will be a fully-realized, production-intensive, album-length dj mix full of surprises and constant left-turns. Additionally, the mixes will be colored by a sort of hazy party atmosphere, lending the whole affair abstract feelings of nostalgia; as if channeling a party experience from the past. If you like your music vivid and intense, challenging and distinctive, full of warmth and sentiment; than 'Kaleidoscope' is for you.
